This is a story that Scott Brent, a long-time member of Friedland, wrote at Christmas, 1999.
“Reflections On A Year”
A mother and daughter play their horns for you. The children sing Morning Star. A gift box is filled, and soon a child will smile. And the Scripture says: The glorious Father may give you the Spirit of Wisdom. God Is Listening.
At home, the dinner is blessed. A bedtime story is told. A prayer ends the day. And the Scripture says: He blessed the home of the righteous. God Blesses.
A penny is dropped in a jar. A coat is placed in a box. The offering plate is filled. And the Scripture says: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it for me. God Understands.
At the Prodigal House a life is restored. At the jail hope is given. In Croatia, Victor has heard the Word. In Asia, a child of God accepts Christ. And the Scripture says: And you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. God Confirms.
The Candles are lighted. The band plays to a faithful servant. Sunnyside continues to serve. The Lord has risen. The Lord has risen indeed. And the Scripture says: He is not the GOD of the dead but of the living for to Him all are alive. God Enlightens.
God Reminds: “Love the LORD your GOD with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”
