We love because He first loved us.
1 John 4:19
Pastor John Writes:
February is often associated with love — cards, chocolates, and other gifts fill the month as we celebrate Valentine’s Day. Yet, our scriptures remind us that love goes far beyond romantic gestures. In fact, the very foundation of love is rooted in God Himself.
One short, powerful verse, “We love because He first loved us,” shows us that our ability to love comes directly from God. His love is not conditional or based on what we can offer; it is freely given, abundant, and perfect. Through His love, expressed most fully in Jesus Christ, we are empowered to share that same love with others.
In what ways are we reflecting God’s love to those around us? This February, let us strive to make God’s love the center of our relationships— not just in words but in action. Whether it’s offering kindness to a stranger, forgiving someone who has wronged us, or reaching out to those in need, our acts of love are a reflection of the One who first loved us.
God’s love is patient and kind, selfless and forgiving, and we are called to reflect God’s love in our actions. Above all, let us remember that God’s love is constant, unchanging, and available to us every day of the year — not just in February. Whether you’re facing a season of joy or challenge, His love is your anchor and your strength.
As we journey together through this month, may we each grow in our understanding of God’s great love and express it in all we do. May this be a time of deepening our connection to Him and one another.
In Christ,
The Rev. John G. Rights
